Why did you create the site?
Now that the COVID-19 situation has calmed down and people from overseas are coming to Japan more, I have been looking back at the Japan I was born and raised in, and I wanted to share things that aren’t often introduced and that people from overseas probably don’t know about, so that they can get to know more about Japan. Because this is run by an individual, the information may be out of date. Also, while I will do my best to avoid incorrect information, if such information does occur I will correct or delete it promptly. I will be updating and posting at a leisurely pace, so I hope you will follow along at your own pace.
What kind of person are you?
When I was a teenager, I was blown away by the punk band The Clash’s “Janie Jones.”
At that time, I was listening to the famous Japanese punk band The Blue Hearts[Wikipedia] in real time,
and also listening to Japanese bands from the late 1980s to early 1990s, but I blew them away,
got in touch with the origins of punk, and got even more into it when I heard The Damned – Neat Neat Neat.
While listening to early punk bands, I also listened to Bad Religion and bands on the Epitaph label in real time.
Around that time, Green Day’s Basket Case came to Japan, and while some of my friends were into hardcore and heavy music, I was getting more and more into pop and catchy bands.
Back then, the internet hadn’t become widespread, so I would go to Shinjuku in Japan and buy CDs based on information from friends and books. At the time, there were record shops in Shinjuku that sold a variety of genres, and I would have them order them for me.
Then I started working and my friends got married and started families of their own.
I had never had the chance to get married and worked hard as a designer.
The web wasn’t widespread at the time, so I used an early Mac
and did print design, and went with the times and worked as a web designer.
I once worked hard as an employee of a group company of a major Japanese corporation, but when I was in my 20s, I developed a herniated disc, which left me feeling mentally exhausted, so I took on a variety of different jobs.
Currently, I help Japanese manufacturers sell their products overseas online and occasionally take on freelance design work, but since the coronavirus outbreak I have begun to think again about the good and bad points of Japan and wanted to share them in my own way, so I started my own website.
How are you these days?
Recently, I’ve been listening to more and more pop and catchy music in the car,
such as Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and of course Avril Lavigne,
and more recently I’ve been listening to Creepy Nuts[Wikipedia] and Hitsujibungaku[Wikipedia], who have become famous overseas through anime.
I wonder when I’ll start listening to YOASOBI[Wikipedia] too (*’ω’*)
My herniated disc still gets worse, and about once every two or three years I have difficulty walking, but I would like to be able to share information about how to prevent it from getting worse.
What do you want to introduce about Japan?
I don’t like crowds, and living in Japan, Tokyo doesn’t seem particularly appealing to me.
I don’t know if my introduction will meet the expectations of people overseas.
I don’t think I need to introduce places that are impactful or popular because other people will introduce them
even if I don’t.However, if I come across such a place or thing, I will let you know.
