I went to see the Matsuda Cherry Blossom Festival at this scenic spot where you can see Mt. Fuji nearby and Sagami Bay in its entirety. (Mid-March 2025)
When I went there, the Kawazu cherry blossoms(Kawadzuzakura:河津桜) were in full bloom and it was beautiful.

Matsuda Cherry Blossom Festival(まつだ桜祭り)

The Matsuda Cherry Blossom Festival is not a year-round event, but is held every year from early February to late March.
The 2025 event took place from Saturday, February 8th to Saturday, March 15th (it was scheduled to run until Sunday, March 16th, but was canceled a day early due to bad weather).
The best time to see the cherry blossoms is usually from mid-February to early March, and there are about 360 cherry trees. In terms of popularity, the number of cherry trees here is 9th in the nation and 1st in Kanagawa Prefecture.

During the event, a shuttle bus will be running from the north exit of Matsuda Station on the JR Gotemba Line.
One-way: 180 yen for adults / 90 yen for children (2025 fiscal year)

Parking: During the event, parking is not available in the park, so please use the temporary parking lot on the banks of the Sakagawa River. (I parked my car in a paid parking lot near Matsuda Station and walked there, but I think it would be difficult for elderly people or those with mobility issues.)
*If you are using a car navigation system, you should enter the following address: 1596-1 Matsuda Soryo, Matsuda-cho, Ashigarakami-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture. However, this may change after 2025, so please check the Matsuda Town website or the Nishihirahata Park website for the event dates, etc.

Even though Nishihirahata Park does not host the Matsuda Cherry Blossom Festival, the night view from here is still ranked number one in the Kanagawa and Yokohama night view rankings.
You can also enjoy nature and the beautiful scenery by taking a stroll to Saimyoji Historical Site Park.
Nishihirahata Park is located on the middle slope of Mount Matsuda, overlooking Matsuda Town, Oi Town, Kaisei Town, Odawara, and Minamiashigara in the Ashigara Plain.
Located in a prime position overlooking the rich nature, Sagami Bay and Mt. Fuji, there is the Matsudayama Herb Garden, the Hometown Railway (Poppo Railway) where both children and adults can have fun, the Nature Museum that teaches about the workings of nature, and the Children’s Museum where children can have fun.

It wasn’t that crowded when I went, but I was so satisfied seeing the Kawazu cherry blossoms in full bloom that I missed enjoying the whole park.(;^ω^)
Next time I go, I’d like to try the Furusato Railway (Poppo Railway), which is fun for both children and adults.

I hope this information will be helpful for those who are planning to visit Nishihirahata Park in the future, or for those who are planning to see the Matsuda Cherry Blossom Festival after 2026.
Thank you for watching.
