When I decided to introduce it on my website, I thought it would fit in with the “culture” theme.
The scenes of scenery, living quarters, and meals are all representative of modern Japanese culture, and there are even roles for samurai from the end of the Edo period. Although the Aizu samurai Takasaka Shinzaemon in the film is not a real person, it was a great movie that made me think about what samurai of the time must have looked like.

“Samurai Time Slippers『侍タイムスリッパ―』” was released to the public at a single movie theater, Ikebukuro Cinema Rosa, on August 17, 2024, and gained popularity through word of mouth. On September 4 of the same year, it was announced that Gaga would join in the distribution and the film would be released in over 50 theaters, including cinema complexes across the country. It was also announced that the film would begin screening at major multiplexes from September 13, expanding the screening scale to over 300 theaters, so I went to see it alone at the movie theater on November 11, 2024.

I don’t usually watch movies at the cinema.
I feel like going to the toilet, I get bothered by noises around me and people who are not feeling well, and if I eat or drink something, I make other people feel the same way.
As for how long ago that was, it was since the movie “Your Name.”
The person I was with at the time said it was popular so we watched it… I’m glad(=ﾟωﾟ)ﾉ。

Then on November 11th, 2024, I went to see it by myself while going for a drive.
It was a weekday and the place was pretty empty, so there were no people sitting near me and I was able to concentrate and enjoy the show until the very end.

First of all, Makiya Yamaguchi：山口馬木也（やまぐち まきや）, who plays the main character, Takasaka Shinzaemon, is superb in his role as a samurai (Aizu clan samurai) from the end of the Edo period (approximately 1853-1868)!
A really good actor！
I had heard that he was a talented actor who has appeared in many period dramas, television and movies, and is a regular in historical dramas, but I had not heard of him.　m(_ _)m
You may have seen it, but it seems he never played a leading role and was a great supporting actor.
Since he has appeared in many period dramas, I don’t know much about sword fighting【殺陣（たて）】, but he had a dignified presence and his performance of the melancholy samurai of the late Edo period was excellent.

And Norimasa Fuke, who plays Kyoichiro Kazami：冨家ノリマサ（ふけ のりまさ）, is an actor I know.
I don’t think he is inferior to the actors Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, and Tokuma Nishioka who appear in the Emmy Award-winning drama “SHOGUN,” which was a huge hit in North America and around the world.（This is my personal opinion.(;^ω^)）。
Norimasa Tomiya has appeared in many period dramas, so just having him there makes a great picture!
He readily accepted the role in “Samurai Time Slippers” because “the script was interesting,” and that same spirit could be felt in the role.

The other cast members were also very good, and although the production budget was low at about 26 million yen, I think the film has a good flavor because it was made with the cooperation of Toei Kyoto Studio and people involved in period dramas.

Synopsis
In Kyoto at the end of the Edo period, Aizu samurai Shinzaemon heads to Saikyoji Temple to assassinate Yamagata of the Choshu clan.
Just as the two crossed swords, thunder suddenly rumbled… When he woke up, he was in a modern-day period drama film studio.
Shinzaemon is shocked when he finds out he is in the “future,” but with the help of kind-hearted people he gradually regains his strength.
Eventually, Shinzaemon decides to make a living as an actor who gets slashed, relying solely on his honed sword skills…
