Temperature and humidity in the southeastern region of Saitama Prefecture in 2023 – 2023ネンド サイタマケン トウナンチイキ ノ キオン ト シツド (2023年度 埼玉県東南地域の気温と湿度) –

As the title of this article suggests, I decided to look into the temperature and humidity in the southeastern part of Saitama Prefecture because I thought it might be useful to know the electricity bills in winter when replacing an air conditioner, and the humidity in summer, etc., which might help me choose an air conditioner. I also wanted to know how hot and cold it has actually been in recent years.
Last year, 2023, was hot and cold, so I used the data for the entire year of 2023 as a reference.

In the Kanto region of Japan, more electricity is used during the heating season than during the air conditioning season in the summer, so I wanted to see how much of a difference there actually is.
In the southeastern area of Saitama Prefecture where I live,

Southeastern Saitama Prefecture

The lowest temperature in January -5.9℃ Set the heating temperature with 20℃And the difference temperature is 25.9℃
The highest temperature is in July, 39.1℃ Set the cooling temperature with 25℃And the difference temperature is 14.1℃
Even if you set the heating temperature to a low 20°C, it will still raise the temperature to 25.9°C, so you will still have to pay for electricity.
What surprised me was that the lowest humidity day was April 13th. 12% Also, September is the autumn month with the highest average humidity. 81%

Even in October and November the humidity is high and the temperature has been exceeding 30°C since May, so it feels like the summers are getting longer.
I hope this will be helpful for anyone traveling to the southeastern region of Saitama Prefecture.
I then looked up the temperature and humidity in the areas I’m interested in for 2023.

Hakodate Hokkaido Oshima

2023 Hakodate, Hokkaido (Oshima region)

The lowest temperature is -13.1℃ in January, the highest temperature is 35.4℃ in August, the lowest humidity is 19% on April 21st, and the highest monthly average humidity is 82% in July and August.
It is worth noting that the average daily temperatures are -3.6°C in January, -1.6 in February, and -0.1 in December, which is considerably colder than the Kanto region. The highest temperature in July was 31.8°C, and there were two months in Hokkaido where the temperature exceeded 30°C.
However, Hokkaido is large, and the further north you go the colder the winters become.

Fukushima Prefecture Wakamatsu

2023 Fukushima Prefecture (Wakamatsu)

The lowest temperature is -8.3℃ in February, the highest temperature is 38.3℃ in August, the lowest humidity is 12% on May 12th, and the highest monthly average humidity is 88% in December.
It is worth noting that the monthly average humidity is over 80% in January, February, October, November, and December, which may be unique to the Wakamatsu region.
Fukushima is also a large prefecture, facing the sea to the east and surrounded by mountains to the west, so I went there several times in the winter to go snowboarding.

Tokyo Metropolitan Area

2023 Tokyo (Tokyo area)

The lowest temperature in January -3.4℃ 、The highest temperature in July 37.7℃
The lowest humidity was recorded on April 13th. 15% 、June and September have the highest monthly average humidity 80%
What is particularly noteworthy is that the monthly average and maximum humidity were surprisingly low.
I often go to Asakusa, but when I come back to southeastern Saitama, I am surprised at the difference in temperature. (Southeastern Saitama is hotter and colder.)
In some places in Japan, the climate can change with just a 30km journey.

Kyoto Prefecture

2023 Kyoto Prefecture (Kyoto)

The lowest temperature in January -4.0℃ 、The highest temperatures are in July and August. 38.9℃
The lowest humidity was recorded on March 11th. 11% 、January: Highest monthly average humidity 72%
It is worth noting that the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures is 26.4℃ in May, and there are eight months (January, February, March, April, May, June, November, and December) where the temperature difference is more than 20℃, which can make it difficult to manage your health and choose your clothes.
I never expected the highest temperature to be 38.9℃ in July and August and to drop to -4.0℃ in January.

Fukuoka Prefecture

2023 Fukuoka Prefecture (Fukuoka)

The lowest temperature in January -2.5℃ 、The highest temperature in August 37.3℃
The lowest humidity was recorded on April 23rd. 14% 、June and September: High monthly average humidity 76%
It is worth noting that the highest temperature in August is 37.3°C, even though it is located south of Kyoto Prefecture (Kyoto).
The average temperature seems to be higher than in Tokyo, but perhaps because it is surrounded by the sea, it feels stable throughout the year.

Okinawa Prefecture Naha

2023 Okinawa Prefecture (Naha)

The lowest temperature in January 8.4℃ 、The highest temperature in August 34.3℃
The lowest humidity was recorded on March 28th. 37% 、June: Highest monthly average humidity 88%
It is worth noting that the average temperature is high, and the maximum value is similar to that of Fukushima Prefecture (Wakamatsu region), which is surrounded by mountains, but the minimum humidity is high because it is surrounded by the sea, and the maximum temperature in 2023 was actually lower than Hokkaido. It seems that people in Okinawa use heating in the winter, and it is true that they do when the temperature is in the single digits.

*The above illustration of the map of Japan is simplified, but the distance from Fukuoka to Naha is approximately 1,000 km.

Some data is entered manually, so please check the Japan Meteorological Agency website for details.
I posted this in the hope that it will be helpful for people who are planning to travel to these regions or come to Japan.
Even though I live in Japan, there are days when I don’t know what to wear. I hope this will be helpful for you in deciding what to wear.

People who come to Japan from countries where it is colder than Japan sometimes find it cold, and people who come to Japan from countries where it is hotter in summer find the humidity in Japan unbearable, so choosing clothes can be difficult.
Please take care of your health when you come to Japan.

Thank you for watching.
